What we do

Mobinomics Software Systems is a niche software practice
with a focus on co-creating service delivery systems
for telco's, cities and beyond.

Who

Mobinomics has a rare combination of niche domain knowledge, technical ability and understanding of complex dynamic systems.

MARK ACTON: MANAGING DIRECTOR

Mark founded Mobinomics with the vision of creating a niche telco software business which could co-create with and service a narrow slices of customers who require laser focus and depth of expertise to solve messy problems.

GUIDO ZSILAVECZ: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

With over 20 years experience in software development in a telecoms environment, Guido has a deep understanding of complex workflow systems and the entire software development process.

Why

We believe that software systems are the central nervous systems of the infrastructures that will build and drive tomorrow’s economy.

With this in mind, we look to design systems capable of dealing with ever increasing complexity and the growing demand for seamless service delivery.

How

By moving beyond traditional thinking when it no longer works, we are able to uncover powerful solutions that solve real-world problems and provide customers with seamless service delivery.

This approach has led us to pioneering the development of self-organizing systems which are able to adapt to the unpredictable and changing operating environments which many organizations find themselves in.

The benefit being the reduction of operating costs and improved customer experience.

Professional Services

To ensure mutually beneficial project engagement, we start our collaboration by getting to the heart of the customer’s problem that needs to be solved.

With a clear goal in mind, we then engineer solutions by drawing on the expertise of an embedded core team of software professionals across a wide range of disciplines.

Our experts operate in a highly collaborative mode to fulfil strategic software transformation projects, change requests and maintenance on the software suite.

Portfolio

Mobinomics provides a leading South African converged network operator with professional services for operational support systems (OSS) which realise the Telco ETE service management layer.

What we believe

Learn more about our approach to designing and building systems, managing complex software projects, some of the academia that sits behind our thinking, and how you would experience this process when working with us.

Your experience

We work fluidly within your operational environments as they are in reality – not as they appear in presentations.

We actively champion to harmonise all stakeholders so that when the inevitable turbulences arise, they can be engaged in a productive way.

In short, we navigate the polarity of rigidity and chaos to find a seamless solution that the greater team wholeheartedly supports.

Getting real

Experience has taught us that traditional approaches that emphasise processes, structures and specialist skills, typically break down in the face of complex technology projects. Largely because they don't match the spaghetti-junction density of the systems themselves, nor the context in which they are located. Nor do they appreciate that humans can’t be managed in the same way as tech components.

Mobinomics employs a different set of principles that allows for change and stability while looking beyond outmoded models of thinking.

Being Human

Being human-first enables true collaboration. Listening deeply, allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, and forgetting stereotypes is what builds trust – the real coupling of teams.

Map is not the territory

Context cannot be ignored. This means we don't blindly apply off-the-shelf consulting frameworks or imported best practices.

Transdisciplinarity

We believe that retaining focus on both ourselves (the nature of the observer) AND the things observed, allows a true transcendence of limits imposed by disciplinary thinking

The Operating System Layer

We have distilled our thinking on the importance and function of the operating system layer in this foundation essay published in April 2015.

Aslam Khan on co-operation

We discovered Aslam at Agile Africa 2013 - and we immediately recognised that he was walking the path less travelled when it came to appreciating the difference between "software methodology and process" and bringing our humanity into software teams.

Ultra-Large-Scale Systems: The Software Challenge of the Future

From as early as 2006, it has been recognized that traditional approaches to managing large scale software systems are limited. In this book, Ultra-Large-Scale Systems: The Software Challenge of the Future, the authors advocate an alternative foundational view that of socio technical ecosystems.

Thinking... its so important

For a concise dummies guide to common sense and the difficulties associated with thinking about complexity from a traditional scientific perspective, we have found no clearer articulation on the fundamental importance of context and the dangers of de-contextualisation.
